Will the air compressor lubricating oil go bad with time?

Time: 2020-11-12 09:54:16

Regardless of whether it is stored indoors or outdoors, the storage area should be kept sanitary on the ground so that oil leakage can be detected in time. After opening the oil, avoid long-term storage. Pay attention to special and clean oil extraction tools. Cover the lid in time after extraction. In addition, the ideal storage temperature of lubricating oil is 0-25℃. Too high or too low temperature will have an adverse effect on the lubricating oil. Pay attention to the temperature control of the storage area in summer and winter.

1.Handling of lubricating oil

The factory packaging specifications of industrial lubricants are many, the most common of which is 200L drums. Due to the large weight and volume of this kind of barrel, it is easy to cause oil leakage during the handling process, and damage the label of the barrel body and cause pollution inside the barrel. Workers should also pay attention to personal and surrounding equipment safety when unloading and handling. Forklifts should be used for unloading, and the oil drum must not be directly pushed down from the truck to prevent the barrel from bursting and causing danger and pollution. When moving, forklifts or carts should also be used. If you need to roll the drum, you need to confirm whether the ground is smooth and clean, and two people should control the rolling speed.

2.The storage of lubricating oil

2.1 Indoor storage
The most ideal storage method for lubricating oil is to store it indoors in the dark and at room temperature. Special oil storage bins should be set up in the factory, and the oil drums should be stored centrally in the designated place in the factory, which can save a lot of transportation time and is very convenient. The room should be dry and ventilated, and oil drums should be kept away from steam pipes or heated areas. Shelves should be installed in the oil warehouse, and a lifting platform should be attached to place the oil drums smoothly. Lubricants of various categories should be arranged systematically for easy access. Good warehousing registration and following the principle of "first-in, first out" can reduce the risk of deterioration due to long storage.
2.2Outdoor storage
If it must be stored outdoors due to force majeure, some precautions should be taken to minimize the adverse consequences: ·Set up tents or use tarps to prevent the oil drums from being corroded by rain and snow.
·Oil drums should be placed on a shelf at a certain distance from the ground to prevent moisture.
·The oil drum should be placed as horizontally as possible so that the two drums are plugged on the same horizontal line, and the two sides of the oil drum are fixed with wooden wedges to prevent it from rolling. The water in the horizontally placed oil drum will not collect on the edge of the drum and enter the drum, and the inside of the barrel plug will be completely immersed in the lubricating oil to prevent air from entering the barrel through the barrel plug, which will cause certain pollution to the lubricating oil. If you must put it upright, turn the barrel upside down with the lid facing down. When the oil barrel must be placed with the barrel plug facing upwards, one side of the barrel should be padded with wooden slats to make the bottom inclined to one side. The straight line connecting the two barrels should be parallel to the wooden slats to keep the water away The opening of the barrel stopper.
· Try to avoid direct sunlight on the oil drum. When the temperature rises and falls, the effect of thermal expansion and contraction will cause moisture to enter the barrel through the barrel plug. In addition to directly polluting the lubricating oil in the barrel, it will also corrode the iron barrel and produce other pollutants, which will further pollute the lubricating oil in the barrel.

Regardless of whether it is stored indoors or outdoors, the storage area should be kept sanitary on the ground so that oil leakage can be detected in time. After opening the oil, avoid long-term storage. Pay attention to special and clean oil extraction tools. Cover the lid in time after extraction.
